Advisement

The primary purpose of Academic Advising is to assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans that will result in career goals and foster lifelong learning. The Student and Advisor relationship is based on a system of shared responsibility where advisors guide students through the varied programs and degree requirements at Chandler-Gilbert Community College by following a developmental advisement approach.

Tips on Advising

It is important to recognize that academic advising is more than selecting courses for an upcoming semester or making a plan to graduate. Both parties of the partnership should have specified expectations.

It is the student's responsibility to: initiate and maintain contact with your advisor; discuss situations and issues that affect your academic performance (such as work and family commitments); learn basic university, college and departmental requirements, policies; and procedures; and seek assistance when needed.

Your advisor will: listen and respond to your interests and concerns; respect you as an individual; be reasonably accessible; know policies and procedures for the college/university and your degree program; know where to find valuable information and make appropriate referrals for student support services; and provide guidance and assistance with your academic, career and life goals.
