Placement Testing

Course placement testing is the second step in your educational journey. Placement results allow you and your advisor to determine which courses are best for you as you begin your education at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC). The placement test will determine you skill level in English, reading and math.  The text below answers the most frequently asked questions about the process.
  • Block Testing Instructions for placement (English, math and reading):
    • Please review placement calendar for test times, sessions vary monthly.
    • Student must set their online student account.  Go to my.maricopa.edu and click on "First Time Users Start Here."  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID).  Password, and Student ID.  To apply for admissions go to my.maricopa.edu, then click Login and enter your User ID (MEID) and password.  Next click on Sign in and go to MCCCD Admissions under Student Center and complete your personal information.
    • Placement testing is by appointment only.
    • Students must arrive at their designated test time.
    • There is no cost to students for this service.
    • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.

  • Single Subject placement Testing:
    • Students may walk-in during our hours of operation.  Please visit the Testing Center web page for hours of operation.
    • Student must set their online student account.  Go to my.maricopa.edu and click on "First Time Users Start Here."  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID).  Password, and Student ID.  To apply for admissions go to my.maricopa.edu, then click Login and enter your User ID (MEID) and password.  Next click on Sign in and go to MCCCD Admissions under Student Center and complete your personal information.
    • Seating is limited, please plan accordingly.
    • There is no cost to students for this service
    • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.


CELSA (English as a Second Language Test)

CELSA Placement Testing is available for students for which English is their second language. It assists us in determining the appropriate English as a Second Language (ESL) course a student may need. Seating is limited.

  • Test sessions available on a walk-in basis during normal business hours. Last testing times are 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
  • Student must set their online student account.  Go to my.maricopa.edu and click on "First Time Users Start Here."  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID).  Password, and Student ID.  To apply for admissions go to my.maricopa.edu, then click Login and enter your User ID (MEID) and password.  Next click on Sign in and go to MCCCD Admissions under Student Center and complete your personal information.
  • Seating is limited, please plan accordingly.
  • There is no cost to students for this service.
  • CELSA assessments may only be repeated one time.
  • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.


Classroom Support Testing

(Make-up exams, online courses, and disability-related special accommodations)

All make-up exams and on-line course testing is coordinated by the instructor with the Testing Center. Students should contact their instructors to ensure that arrangements have been made prior to arriving at the Testing Center.

  • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.
  • Tests and instructions must be submitted by instructors prior to taking the test at the Center.
  • Students are responsible for providing their own scantron form, calculators, or any other item allowed by instructor.
  • If your test requires the use of a computer, please call (480) 732-7159. Students are encouraged to schedule their appointments at least 1 - 2 weeks in advance to ensure availability.
  • The Testing Center does not accept or distribute homework assignments.
  • Testing is dependent upon available seating within the Testing Center during normal business hours. Last testing times are 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Make-up Exams and Online Course Testing:

  • Services extended only for students who may have missed an exam due to extenuating circumstances such as death in family, illness, etc. or who are taking a hybrid or online course.
  • Testing services available:

    • Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Testers must arrive by 5:30 p.m.
    • Fridays from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Testers must arrive by 3:30 p.m.

  • Limited Saturday testing available (by appointment only) during the rest of the academic year. An appointment can be made by calling (480) 732-7159. No email requests will be accepted.

  • Saturday appointments must be made by 12 noon on the Thursday before a test is being requested but it would help the center staff if you would make arrangements at least 1 - 2 weeks in advance whenever possible so we can plan for appropriate staffing needs

Disability Related Test Accommodations:

  • Students needing ADA special accommodations for testing must be registered with Disability Resources Services (DRS) office prior to testing.
  • Testing for ADA special accommodations will be coordinated through the DRS office prior to the test. Current documentation must be on file in the Testing Center.
  • Students must make an appointment for special accommodations testing. Students are encouraged to schedule their appointments at least 1 - 2 weeks in advance.
  • Testing hours will be determined based on the student’s special accommodation needs.
  • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.


Testing Information & Requirements for the Nursing Entrance Exam (NET)

  • The cost of the NET is $25.00.
  • Scores are determined by the Nursing Program, for current admissions criteria and score requirements visit the Nursing web page.
  • Calculators are not allowed. Scratch paper will be provided.
  • Testing is available by appointment only. Seating is limited, please plan accordingly.
  • Student must set their online student account.  Go to my.maricopa.edu and click on "First Time Users Start Here."  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID).  Password, and Student ID.  To apply for admissions go to my.maricopa.edu, then click Login and enter your User ID (MEID) and password.  Next click on Sign in and go to MCCCD Admissions under Student Center and complete your personal information.
  • All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing.
  • NET results are valid for 24 months. Test results must be valid at the time of application to the Nursing Program

Process:

  1. The student must have a student record (my.maricopa.edu) at CGCC in order to test.
  2. Appointments may be set online through the Online Appointment Reservation page. Appointments are made on a first come, first serve basis. Seating is limited. Appointments will only be held for 15 minutes, so please plan accordingly.
  3. Please print your appointment confirmation page and take to the Pecos Campus – Fiscal Office in Building A to pay fees.
  4. Admission exams may take 2 ˝ to 3 hours to complete. Allow sufficient time to take the exam.
  5. Students needing special accommodations for testing need to contact disability resources prior to testing.
  6. All testers ARE REQUIRED to present valid and current picture identification before testing and evidence of payment of exam fee to test.
  7. Applicants must print a copy of the exam results prior to leaving the testing center. A printed copy of the exam results must be included when submitting the MCCD Nursing Program application. Students should keep a copy of their results for their records.
  8. Scores and date of testing are saved to the student information system (SIS). Testing Center staff will check the system for last date of testing. NET retesting is permitted after a 60 day waiting period for a maximum of 3 times per year (from the date of the first test).



Proctoring Information for non-Chandler-Gilbert Community College students
The Testing Center at Chandler-Gilbert Community College offers exam administration and proctoring services to members of our community. We are able to accommodate paper and pencil exams, exams that must be word-processed using MS Word on a PC, and Internet testing. Exams are given in a classroom or lab with other testing conducted at the same time. Individual testing rooms are not available

General Information:
  • For payment purposes, student must set their online student account.  Go to my.maricopa.edu and click on "First Time Users Start Here."  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID).  Password, and Student ID.  To apply for admissions go to my.maricopa.edu, then click Login and enter your User ID (MEID) and password.  Next click on Sign in and go to MCCCD Admissions under Student Center and complete your personal information.
  • Distance Learning Exams are proctored on a limited basis, testing hours will be determined based on the exam specifications.
  • It is the responsibility of the proctor student to call and confirm receipt of each exam and to schedule an appointment.
  • Proctor students should schedule appointments at least one week prior to the testing date. Please notify staff if your exam requires a computer.
  • All proctor students ARE REQUIRED to present a valid and current picture identification before testing.
  • There is an hourly fee of $15.00 to proctor each exam ($15.00 minimum charge and postage fees may also be charged if not paid by the proctor students school or institution).

  • Exams will be accepted via U.S. mail and email. No faxed exams will be accepted.
