Majors in Education
(145KB .pdf file)
CGCC's Teacher Education Program offers courses to get you started in any of the following traditional degree options:
  • Early Childhood (Birth through third grade)
  • Special Education (Grades K-12)
  • Elementary Education (Grades 1-8)
  • Secondary Education (Grades 7-12)

Areas of Specialization or Content Emphasis
Education majors should plan for an area of specialization (18-24 credit hours in a subject field) as a field of expertise. It is recommended that the area of emphasis be a "core subject" such as:
  • English, reading or language arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social studies
  • Technology
Requirements may vary among university programs. An advisor or education faculty can assist you in making this determination.

AmeriCorps opens the door for citizens to serve in a variety of ways. Through their service and the volunteers they mobilize, AmeriCorps members address critical needs in American communities. Teacher education students may earn $2000-$4000 in scholarship money through their field experience.
