Black Student Union

To thousands of youth across America, Saul Williams has defined and redefined poetry as an accessible, living art form. His Poetry has served as the archetype for a new generation of poets and spoken word artists...Join us this spring as we welcome Saul Williams to Chandler-Gilbert Community College: Thursday, March 27 2008, from 7:00 PM in the Performance Arts Center. For more information please contact Bill Mullaney at 480/732.7274.

BSU Mission & Goals

Our Goal

The goal of the Black Student Union is to provide a support system for African-American students and all members of Chandler-Gilbert Community College by creating an environment that provides and promotes leadership opportunities, embraces identity and encourages diversity. We believe it is our responsibility to successfully convey our collective perspectives of the Black Experience to our fellow students as well as faculty, staff and administrators. Additionally we are fully aware of our unique and vital position at this institution, recognizing the need to initiate understanding through group solidarity and collective identity.

Our Mission

In honor of our rich heritage; we passionately embrace this opportunity to educate ourselves, Chandler-Gilbert Community College community and the world by the following: Ensuring that our membership has a sense of Ownership to the organization. Actively communicating with the BSU Advisors or Diversity Committee and providing them input on how they can make the experience of all students better. Providing a safe place medium through which students can voice their needs and concerns to the appropriate agencies of the College. Generate a greater understanding among all cultures while actively promoting and participating in academic, political, and social programs which broaden understanding of the crucial aspects of race and social environments within our community.
