Mathematics and Engineering Opportunities Week (MEOW) is a week-long focus on mathematics and its connection to the world around us. Each day during the week, there is a guest speaker or event to help students, faculty, staff, and the community better appreciate the role mathematics plays in the world. Now in its third year, the events will provide the CGCC community with presentations like those of the last two years, including:

  • Statistics in the Real World - by Dr. Jefferey Wilson, ASU
  • The Mathematics of the Soap Bubble - Dr. Carol Edwards, CGCC
  • Math in the Movies - Scott Adamson, CGCC
  • Mathematics in Engineering - Bassam Matar, CGCC; with student demos
  • Mathematics in Chemistry - Dr. Yi Guo, CGCC; with student demos
  • The Mathematics of Automobile Accident Reconstruction - Officer Mark Marino, Gilbert Police Department
  • Statistics, Media, and Politics - Dr. Bruce Merril, ASU
  • The Human Calculator - Scott Flansburg, in Guinness Book of World Records as the Fastest Human Calculator
Mathematics and Engineering Opportunities Week events are held during the last week of March or the first week of April each year.
