Research Evaluation and Documentation Tools

·        Magazine or Journal
What's the difference? How can I tell if it's a magazine or a journal when I'm online? This is an easy to print handout.

·        Author/Source - does the author have the credentials to be an authority in the field? 

·        Content of the site, Currency - when was it published or posted to the net? 

·        Purpose - Any bias? What does the site offer? -   Information, recreation or products for sale? 

·        Relevancy - is this the information you were looking for?

      OJIN - this free online journal has a search feature with full text articles. 

·        ALLNurses.com
     You will need to submit your email and subscribe to this free service of many online nursing journals    & newsletters. 

·        CyberNurse
     Online journals, newsletters and nursing blogs.

 

Library Databases

ou will need to have your student ID card activated by library staff to access these subscription databases from off campus. If you are on campus you will not need to have an activated library card. Get your student picture ID at one of the College Safety Offices either at the Pecos or Williams campuses.

The library also has a fantastic eBook collection from Ebrary that may be accessed from your home computer using your library barcode number and PIN, or from the Williams campus GSB computer lab. If off campus, you will need to down the Ebrary Reader. See Sherry Peabody for details. You may be prompted to enter your library barcode number and PIN to access these databases on and off campus.

 

  • CINAHL Plus with Full Text--Provides indexing for 3,024 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health, with indexing back to 1937. CINAHL Plus also contains searchable cited references for more than 1,160 journals. Full text material includes nearly 80 journals plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials.
  • Health Source: Consumer Edition -- Search for information on many health topics including medicine, food sciences, nutrition, sports medicine, and general health.
  • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition -- Provides nearly 600 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines.
  • MEDLINE-- Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more.
  • OVID--Provides access to over 60 of today's top nursing journals including LPN2006 and Nursing Made Incredibly Easy!
