Lauren Hopper - Commencement Student Speaker 2007

Lauren Hopper is a business major who is graduating with an Associate in Business degree from CGCC and will transfer to Arizona State University in the fall. While at ASU, Lauren plans to earn a second major in ASU's new School of Sustainability that will open in 2008.

Throughout her education at CGCC, Lauren has been involved in a variety of campus activities. She first became a member of the International Honor Society Phi Theta Kappa when she started college while still a junior in high school as a member of the Achieving a College Education (ACE) Plus Program. This year Lauren served as the Phi Theta Kappa Vice President of Scholarship and Leadership. She is also the founder and president of the Hands-on Environmental Action Team (HEAT) Club and has led the college Operation Green campaign. She has been involved with CGCC's Global Learning initiative, Recycling Awareness Week, and Campus Sustainability Day. In addition to the ACE Plus scholarship, she has also received the Chandler Horizon Rotary scholarship, the CGCC Recycling scholarship, and ALL-USA Academic Team honors. She has participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and serves as a YMCA volunteer.

Looking ahead to her future, Lauren states, "My goal is to change behaviors which will lead to community improvement and personal responsibility and engagement, while developing a broad base of resources and alliances to help improve the environment. While at CGCC, my passions have been ignited to make environmental issues my lifelong work."
