Fire Science/EMT Orientation Sign-Up

In response to the current need for Fire Science education and training in the East Valley, Chandler-Gilbert Community College is now offering Fire Science training in partnership with community Fire Departments.

The Associate in Applied Science degree in Fire Science Technology is designed for students who desire advanced training as professional firefighters, basic preparation courses for a career in fire science, or a better understanding of fire hazards and problems in the field. CGCC is also in process of developing certificates for Fire Engineer, and Fire Captain, in addition to an advanced training certificate.

"CGCC was approached by several of the Southeast Valley Fire Departments who expressed an interest in the college providing Fire Science education," said CGCC Dean of Career and Technical Education Bill Crawford. "Based on input from our Fire Science Technology Advisory Council there is significant projected need in the Southeast Valley for training in this area. Fire Departments in this area, including Chandler, Gilbert, Sun Lakes, Gila River Indian Community, and Queen Creek (currently being serviced by Rural Metro) are projecting increased employment in their Fire Departments as they expand to keep up with the population growth."

During the next fiscal year (July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008) CGCC will focus on working in partnership with community fire departments to provide educational opportunities for their employees, with the plan of opening the program up to all students in fall 2008.
