Early Alert Retention and Success Program

Chandler-Gilbert Community College is committed to the success of all our students by providing an environment conducive to teaching, learning, and overall personal growth. This student-centered program focuses on students who may be experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties. It is a collaborative college wide effort among the management, faculty, staff, and students. Awareness of existing and potential student problems is seen as the backbone to a strong retention program. CGCC's Faculty and Staff are proactive, supportive, and committed to our students' overall success. The Early Alert Retention and Success Program was designed to provide: Early Detection and Intervention Assessment and Support Connection and Resources A team of skilled and licensed professionals provide a full range of direct intervention and support services.

The overall goal is to empower students to make informed choices and become self-directive. Interventions may include:

  • Crisis Intervention and Management
  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Short-Term Individual and Group Support Services
  • Mental Health Education and Training
  • Skill Development Training
  • Campus and Community Resources and Referrals
  • Bilingual Spanish Speaking Professionals Reasons Students are referred
  • Experiencing academic or personal difficulties that interfere with classroom success
  • Exhibit poor attitude or behavior that warrant concern
  • Knowledge of personal or family concerns that may be interfering with their success
  • May benefit from campus or community referrals or resources

Here is how it works:

  1. Identify students experiencing academic or personal difficulties that are interferring with their academic success and may need early intervention
  2. Access and submit Student Referral Form: http://portal.cgc.maricopa.edu
  3. Appointment will be made within 72 hours with a Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC)
  4. A BHC will meet directly with the student to identified concerns, and provide support
  5. BHC will provide campus and community referrals, and resources when necessary
  6. Campus referral sources, or departments will recieve notification through workflow queues
  7. Referral source is responsible for completing a Student Success Referral Form
  8. Together the student and BHC will develop an action plan for success
  9. BHC's will maintain communication through the workflow queues updating student's progress This automated student referral program is located on a secured web site in which Student Support & Transition Services case manages. The Student Referral Form that faculty or staff completes has a simple check-list that identiifes the issues or concerns specific to each student. Reasons for referrals may be due to academic and personal difficulties, behavior and attitude that warrant intervention, student may need referral or resources that supports their life plan.
