Department Overview

The department is housed in the Student Development Center, on the northwest end of college in SC164. It has three student-centered programs: Student Support Services, Transition Services, and Disability Resources and Services. There is a team of skilled and licensed professionals able to provides intervention, support and resource to students in need. All intervention and support services are provided for all CGCC students and at no cost. We have bi-lingual (Spanish) staff available. If you are in need of a confidential appointment please contact our office at 480-857-5188. You are welcome to call or walk-in to obtain services.
   

Department Philosophy

H.E.L.P. (Healthy Empowerment of Life Planning)
A student centered department that provides intervention and support services and programs to all CGCC's students. Each promoting and empowering student's to become self-directive and lifelong learners.
 

Overview of Services

Student Support Services

This program provides short-term intervention and support services as well as crisis management for all CGCC's students. Our diverse team of professional Behavioral Health Consultants (BHC's) provide individual and group interventions to assist students with their academic and/or personal issues that interfere with their college success.
  • Early Alert Retention & Success Program - The Early Alert Retention & Success Program was implemented in the Fall 2005 and is managed by this department. This is a college wide collaborative effort from Administration, Management, Faculty, Staff, and Students. Faculty and staff refer students whom they identify as experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties that are interfering with there success. These students may benefit from outside intervention to help ensure their best chance for success in college. Referral forms can be found on CGCC's home page under the heading Faculty and Staff, and then Faculty Support Resources. If you have any questions about the program or how to make a referral please contact SS&TS directly.


  • iMAP - Is a portfolio for students in identifying personal, academic, and career goals. This MAP is designed to empower students to be self-directed and to become lifelong learners.

Transition Services

This program is a support system created especially for the adult learner who is beginning or resuming their college education. Transition Services works closely with "WoRCS" Women Resource Circle of Support which is an established student group on campus that assists in supporting the needs of these students.

  • Living Smart Series - Is a series of workshops and trainings designed to meet the needs of the student who is balancing multiple roles while pursuing academic and personal goals. This series provides a way to connect with peers and the campus resources. Join us for learning, growing and laughter.

Disability Resources & Services (DRS)

This program assists those students on campus who are registered, have a documented disability and are in need of accommodations. The DRS staff supports students in the areas of self advocacy, integration into campus life, and the use of assertive technology to reach academic potential. The staff is also responsible for educating and monitoring campus compliance of Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
