The 6th ranked Coyotes baseball team lost a double header to Cochise College on Saturday snapping their 18 game win streak. The losses dropped the Coyotes into a first place tie with the Apaches of Cochise College. In the first game the Coyotes could only muster up 6 hits in a 4-3 loss. Freshman outfielder Ronnie Welty hit a solo home run for the Coyotes. Freshman pitcher Derek Riley pitched a complete game but still came away with the loss. In the second game the Dawgs collected a 14 hits but still came up on the short end of a 13-8 decision. Armando Moran led the hitting attack going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Neil Medchill, Frank Busani and Channing Brown all had two hits apiece in the game.
On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week the Dawgs pulled off a sweep over South Mountain CC. On Tuesday they collected 18 hits in an 11-10 come from behind victory. Neil Medchill was the offensive leader going 4 for 5 with 4 RBI's and a grand slam. Ronnie Welty, Mike Pettibone, Seth Furmanek, Channing Brown, and Aaron Bree all had two hits apiece in the game. Freshman pitcher Taylor Stuart pitched to one batter in the 9th inning and earned the victory. On Wednesday the Dawgs came from behind again and snatched a 6-5 victory from the Cougars. Aaron Bree led the hitting attack with 3 hits. Ronnie Welty, Frank Busani, and Carlos Ramirez had two hits apiece in the game.
This week the Coyotes will look to start another winning streak when they host on Central Arizona College on Tuesday at 3:00 pm. They will be at Central for a 3:00 pm start on Wednesday. On Saturday they will host Arizona Western College in a noon double header.
Softball:
The softball team lost a both ends of a double header to league leading Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday. In the first game the Lady Coyotes fell by a score of 8-2. Renee Welty had two hits and two RBI's and Mikey Price also collected two hits. In the second game the ladies lost by a score of 10-2. Michelle Pulsipher, Mikey Price and Chelsey Hawthorne all had two hits apiece.
This week the ladies will play host to Phoenix College in a 2:00 pm double header on Tuesday. They will be at Central Arizona for a noon double header on Saturday.
