STUDENT SUCCESS, FALL 2005

November 18 and 19, 2005 CGCC was the host of the statewide musical theater competition sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing. We are pleased to announce that several CGCC vocal music students were among the top placing individuals.

NATS Statewide Music Theater Competition:

  • David Conover: 1st Place Men's Division IV (College Sophomore)
  • Niki Oakes: 1st Place Women's Division III (College Freshman)
  • Michelle Chin: 1st Place Women's Division II (Pre-Collegiate)
  • Matt Ortega: 3rd Place Men's Division IV (College Sophomore)
  • Adam DiBernardo: Honorable Mention Men's Division III (College Freshman)
  • Jaime Kirchhofer: Honorable Mention Women's Division III (College Freshman)
All these students are vocal music majors and/or performance students at CGCC. We're proud of them!

MCCD Outstanding Music Performers Competition Spring 2002: CGCC students take honors and prizes!

Three photography students from Roy Pope's classes placed as finalists in Photographer's Forum's 22nd Annual Student Photography Contest sponsored by Nikon, USA. The students are Stacey Christen, Jeanette Wingate and Courtney Buchanan (Link to photograph of the students with their winning images).


STUDENT SUCCESS, 2000-2001

Nate Stuart, Kevin Stuart, and Steven Rohton, CGCC theater/music students, appearing most recently in our Mikado, have been signed by the Jackson Hole Playhouse for their upcoming season! They will be appearing in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!

CGCC STAR, Photography and Advanced Photoshop student Bonnie Seigel is being featured as an emerging artist at the Photocafe, was featured in a solo exhibition during the month of February in the CGCC Library, and has won an honable mention in the 2001 Best of College Photography (Photographer's Forum Magazine). Her image will be published in the 2001 BOCP Annual, and will be mentioned in the Spring/Summer edition of the photographer's forum magazine.

Connie Kay Jones, music major at CGCC, 1ST Place Winner of the MCCD Solo Vocal Competition during Spring 2001. Also 9 members of the CGCC Jazz/Madrigal Choir placed FIRST in the District Jazz Vocal Ensemble competition.

Photography student Bonnie Seigel won the Photographer's Forum magazine Award of Excellence for a large format portrait. Her image will be published in the 20th Annual Spring Catalog.

Three of Regina Skouson's photography students were winners of the City of Chandler's "View of Chandler" Photography contest. In the college category, the judges selected "Juana" and "Pillars and Shadows" by Particia de Bermuda; "Pillared View" by Chris Perry; and "Solorized Litho Cactus Bloom" by Barbara Mangels. Each student was given $300 as a purchase award. The "View of Chandler" exhibit will be on display at the Chandler Public Library/Main Branch for October 23, 2000 through January 12, 2001, after which it will be on view at the Chandler Center for the Arts foyer from January 29, 2001 to March 26, 2001.

Maricopa District Music Competions: Vocal First Place went to Diana Noble, Chandler-Gilbert Community College student.

Bonnie Siegel an advanced photography student at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, won a fourth place in a national competition sponsored by Photographer's Forum Magazine and Nikon. "Gypsy Dancer" was entered in the 20th annual College Photo Contest won a fourth place and a purchase award of $50.00. Winning Photos are published in the Summer 2000 issue of Photographer's Forum Magazine and in the Best of College Photography Annual 2000. "Gypsy Dancer"was made in the Spring of 1999, under the direction of Roy Pope.

Linda Story Palmer, Photography and Photoshop student:

Linda was named to Phoenix Professional Photographer Association Top 10 Photographers of the year for (1993, 1994, 1998,) 1999, 2000 and Pro Pack Photographers Guild Top Wedding Photographer for the year for 2000. Link to page feature.


STUDENT SUCCESS, SPRING 1999

Tammy Cowden, photography student of Keith Canham, juried two of her photographs into the District's Art Show and one of the pieces placed "BEST OF SHOW".

February 22, 1999: Three Chandler-Gilbert Community College students won awards at the MCCCD Performing Arts Competition on February 22, 1999.

Courtney Dixon, a full-time CGCC Music Major, took First Place in the vocal division. She was awarded a $300 scholarship.

Steven Rhoton and Christine Alton won Honorable Mention awards at the Competition.

Candice McCann, ART190 Web Design student, was awarded the student internship at East Valley Technical Prep.

Dance Student Amy Wagner is a member of the Sidewinders dance team who support the Rattlers.

Dance student Ryanne Glasper was selected to work with the Cardinals Cheerleaders.
